Role: Senior Infrastructure Specialist
Generali Nederland, a key part of the global Generali Group, is one of Europe’s leading integrated insurers—serving life, non-life, pension, and asset management markets in over 50 countries . They prioritize centralized, secure, and digitally enabled IT systems to support their “Lifetime Partner” strategy and ensure consistent delivery across business units .
Their IT environment comprised ~150 Windows Server 2003/2008 R2 VMs on VMware ESXi 4.1, supporting 350 users through a XenDesktop VDI layer managed with RES, SCCM, SCOM, and ITIL/Topdesk frameworks.
My key contributions:
- Monitoring infrastructure (Windows, Exchange 2010, VMware) via SCOM 2012
- Delivering 2nd/3rd line support for servers, Exchange, VDI, and VMware
- Automating AD and Exchange changes with PowerShell scripts
- Managing SQL Server backup/restores (test & production)
- Writing impact analyses and executing complex infrastructure changes (mailbox conversions, cleanup of Exchange DBs, AD Group Policies, VMware resource pools)
- Advising on infrastructure enhancements, including patch management via SCCM
- Generating SCCM and AD reports using PowerShell
- Assessing and optimizing VMware LUN/datastore architecture and patching
- Stepping in to support Tier‑1 service desk during an emergency, ensuring continuity
