The Port of Rotterdam Authority manages, operates, and develops Europe’s largest port—spanning over 127 km² and handling nearly 470 million tonnes of cargo annually. It serves as a vital gateway connecting global trade to Europe’s hinterland via sea, river, rail, road, and pipelines. With 150+ ship arrivals daily, the port is a world leader in innovation, sustainability, and digitalisation.
At the Port of Rotterdam Authority, I provided interim IT expertise within a complex, hybrid environment spanning over 1700 Windows 10 workstations and 150+ virtualized servers. My role was hands-on and diverse, covering:
- Managing and optimizing Azure Active Directory, Exchange Server/Online, and file servers
- Migrating on-premises domains and controllers from Windows Server 2012 to 2019
- Migrating user accounts and data (Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive) within Office 365
- Drafting and reviewing change plans, presenting to the Change Advisory Board (CAB)
- Troubleshooting persistent issues, such as performance problems in Outlook and Exchange Online, often in collaboration with Microsoft and other vendors
- Supporting 2nd line colleagues with complex incidents and changes, mainly on Windows 10 workstations
- Monitoring infrastructure performance and availability (SCOM)
- Packaging software (MSI) for SCCM deployment
- Delivering VIP support to the CEO and CFO, resolving long-standing Teams connectivity issues
This assignment required flexibility, technical depth, and strong communication skills.
